Nurses in this field are dedicated to serving those in areas of isolation, low or sparse population, or where there is a lack of urban influence. Very often in these areas, specialized training and medical resources can be severely lacking or even non-existent. Rural Nurses are advocates for their populations, trying to make sure their patients have access to the best care possible. There are numerous state and federal educational loan repayment programs designed to foster rural nursing, forgiving student loans for time dedicated to nurses in underserved populations.
