J. Myron F.

Hahira, GA
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), Nurse Educator, Doctor of Nursing Practice student

Upon graduating from Valdosta State University in Georgia, I decided to practice in emergency care for a fast-paced, never a dull moment environment. I later decided to return to school to obtain the MSN degree from Brenau University and become a family nurse practitioner. While practicing in Nashville, GA, I found my true calling of rural family health and caring for the working uninsured. I continue to practice rural medicine in Nashville, GA, teach in the Adult Nurse Practitioner track of the MSN program at Valdosta State University, and am enrolled at Georgia Southern University to obtain the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree since my job, my students, my patients, their families, and I expect the best of me. Yes, it is a big responsibility, but I am humbled by the fact that patients entrust their healthcare to me. When long hours, on-call time, and busy days cause me to contemplate reconsidering my professional activities, I am reminded of a chronically ill patient of mine who passed away. Months after her death, the family was looking through her Bible and found these words scribbled in blue, frail handwriting, "Thank you dear God for Myron. He made life easier for me & how kind & understanding he was. Some days I just wanted to give up but he'd find a way to help." This is what nursing and true living is all about.
