April B.

El Dorado, AR
RN, Medical/Telemetry Unit

I am a registered nurse employed by Medical Center of South Arkansas. I work on the fourth floor, where I have been for the past seven years. My first year of experience on this unit was as a patient care technician. During this time, I was completing my RN in Magnolia, AR, at Southern Arkansas University. My experiences as a PCT helped me realize what a wonderful profession I had chosen. The Medical/Telemetry Unit has been the only specialty area I’ve tried on a full time basis, but I’ve had the opportunity to float to other specialty areas. Those areas include Surgical, Rehabilitation, Recuperative Care, Women’s Services and Post Partum.

I really must say, since becoming a nurse, I’ve never regretted my decision. I’ve always enjoyed making people feel better and helping put a smile their faces. The most wonderful feeling comes over me each time I leave a patient’s room and overhear the patient and/or the family commenting positively on the care they’re receiving.

I participate annually in career ladder activities to show how much I care about educating our patients and the community. I have accomplished many goals during my nursing career, but there’s one honor that surprised me: In September, 2004, I was chosen as employee of the month, and later because employee of the year in December. Hard work, determination, and a simple smile packed with TLC have led the way!
