Sally B.

Ray City, GA
RN, Contract

I became a nurse through an unfortunate turn of events. In 1976, I was in a bad auto accident and spent a week in ICU and a week on a surgical floor. All my nurses, from ER to ICU to the floor, were so good to me and I realized they were doing something very beneficial there. While I was home, in my post-hospital recovery period, two nurses in my hometown offered a nursing assistant course. I took that so I could work a little to decide if that was really what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I decided I did. I worked for awhile as a CNA in a hospital and nursing home. I had been in college, but basically floundering, not knowing what I wanted to do. When I went back to college, I changed my major to nursing and the rest, as they say, is history. I've been nursing for 22 years and have loved every minute of it. It can be stressful and has its trying moments, but I really can't imagine myself doing anything else. I have specialized in oncology and am chemo certified. This is such a special group of patients and I love them all. I'm proud to be a part of that and so thankful I was chosen to become a nurse. As a contract nurse, I'm touching many, many lives all over the country. We do "dare to care."
