Tom S.

New York, NY
MSRN; Vice President, Nursing

Nursing is really about the relationship with the patients and their families. I like working as part of a team to provide patient care and developing those special bonds with people. It’s a fantastic feeling. I got into nursing because I wanted to do something for other human beings and to see that my work made a real difference in peoples’ lives. As a nurse, you play a powerful and exciting role in helping people on a face-to-face level. Another thing I love about nursing is that I’m always learning. There are so many dimensions to the field; as a nurse, I’ve had lots of opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally. I think the employment outlook for nurses is terrific. And with the increased prevalence of chronic disease, we need more nurses than ever. Like doctors, nurses care and cure. As a Vice President, I enjoy having an impact on a large scale, but I have to admit that I miss the degree of direct patient contact I had before. I figure I can always go back to having more direct patient interaction if I want.
